Registration & Licensure...
Registration is placing and maintaining on record with the DRE the name and
address of each licensed broker and sales associate; the name
and business address of a sales associate's employer; a sales
associate's or broker's license status (active or inactive);
or a person's involvement as an officer, director, or partner
of a real estate business entity. A Florida licensed sales associate
or broker-sales associate may have only one registered employer
at any one time. Florida licensees may also hold active licenses
in other states. Individuals who do not intend to engage actively
in the real estate business, such as a director of a real estate
corporation, simply register this information with the DRE so
that the information can be entered into FREC's records. However,
an individual who wishes to actively engage in the real estate
industry must be licensed with the DRE.
When
an applicant successfully passes a state licensing examination,
he or she is issued a wallet-size license and certificate of
registration. The license is written document issued
by the DBPR.
The
effective date and expiration date are indicated on the face
of the license. The two-letter prefix before the license number
indicates the license type: BK signifies Broker; SL, sales associate;
BO, branch office; CQ, corporation; and PR, partnership.
