Post-Licensing Education...
Sales
associate and broker licensees are required to successfully
complete a prescribed post-licensing education requirement before
the first renewal of their licenses. This requirement has
the effect of placing all initial licenses in a conditional
(probationary) status because failure to complete the post-licensing
education program will cause the initial license to become null
and void. Sales associates who fail to complete the 45-hour
post-licensing requirement and want to re-qualify for licensure
by repeating the prescribed course and end-of-course exam and
again passing the state licensing exam.
If
a broker fails to complete the 60-hour post-licensing requirement,
the broker's license becomes null and void; however, the broker
may request that a sales associate's license be issued, provided
he or she completes 14 hours of continuing education within
the six months following expiration of the broker's license
and has complied with all requirements for renewal.
Post-licensure
courses may be taken at accredited colleges, universities, or
community colleges; at area technical centers; at real estate
proprietary schools; or from a FREC-approved sponsor. Post-licensing
education courses are designed to build on the knowledge acquired
in the prelicense course and to be training-oriented. Licensees
who fail the post-licensing end-of-course exam must wait at
least 30 days from the date of the original examination to retake
the end-of-course examination. (Alternatively, licensees may
choose to retake the course and, in such cases, take the end-of-course
exam.)
Any
licensee who has received a four-year degree in real estate
from an institution of higher education is exempt from the prelicense
and the post-license education requirements to become initially
licensed.
